1980 really marked the beginning of the golden era of the Wax Trax! store. Besides selling vinyl, Jim & Dannie opened the boutique. It was one of the only places in Chicago that you could get your skinny ties, Beatle boots and spiked collars. More time was eventually spent setting up shows and bringing, then unknown, bands to Chicago. Jim and Dannie planned to present Joy Division’s first US appearance at Tut’s On May 27. The death of Ian Curtis 9 days before ended the possibility of a U.S. tour, and left a weight on the store. Jim & Dannie were also solely responsible for bringing Bauhaus to Chicago that same year for their first US show ever. The concert was held at Space Place on September 9th.
