During this pivotal year in music, the Ramones played in Denver and came to the store for the first time. It had a huge affect on Wax Trax as well as the musicians in the area. The store began hosting “punk nights” wherever they could get a space willing to have them. An early event brought The Nerves from LA., which led to more involvement between the store and promoting shows.
Wax Trax was impetus for local bands like the Ravers, the Front and Jonny III. With the support and enthusiasm of the store, they were able to create a solid scene and even travel outside Denver. When the store eventually moved to Chicago Jim brought the Jonny III to play in shows in the city’s own young punk scene.
