Alright Documentary people-the one week countdown begins…
A ton of hard work and love has gone into this Documentary film. We are very excited to have brought in some of the artists who helped make it happen. After watching the film, you will hear the history of Wax Trax! from the musicians themselves… What went right and of course what ultimately went wrong.
and I really hope you can join us here in Chicago for this very special weekend!
Here are details of the artist panels
SATURDAY APRIL 1, 2017
WAX TRAX! DOCUMENTARY PRESENTS…
INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT-Talk Is Cheap
A one day event marking the upcoming feature documentary of Chicago’s legendary independent record store and label.
This includes two special panel discussions with past and present artists from FRONT 242, MINISTRY, THE REVOLTING COCKS, MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT and THE DEAD KENNEDYS.
Tickets can be found here
Panel participants include:
In addition to being a punk rock legend as a founding member of the Dead Kennedys, LARD and king dude at Alternative Tentacles, Jello’s humble beginnings started at the original WAX TRAX! sore in Denver, Colorado.
Friends of Wax Trax founders Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, Jello was an early staple of the store as well as the label.
Member of Belgian dance commandos FRONT 242 as well as founding member of the Revolting Cocks. When Richard isn’t performing on stage, you can often find him diving in Thailand.
Founding member of Belgian electronic pioneers FRONT 242. Patrick is a principal creative force within FRONT 242 and the Belgian sound that combined new technology, dance beats and the post-punk ethos which was instrumental in creating the EBM genre.
Member of Wax Trax! bands, The Blackouts, Revolting Cocks, Pailhead, Lead Into Gold, PTP, and Acid Horse. In addition to being half of the unstoppable production team LUXA/PAN, Paul was a key member of Ministry from 1986-2003 during the band’s critical and commercial high-water mark.
Member of Wax Trax! bands Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, PTP, and Acid Horse. In addition to contributing to a variety of group projects, Chris’ solo contribution to Wax Trax! cannot be overstated. His 1994 album Shipwreck is still considered by many as one of the label’s crown jewels.
Before he was Groovie he was Franke Nardiello. One of the closest confidants to Wax Trax! founders, Jim & Dannie. Franke was both a long time store employee and key artist on the label. When Franke wasn’t ringing up Sleep Chamber records or finishing Joy Division window displays for the store, he was performing in a little local group called My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult…Dope Forever…Forever Loaded!
The Yin to Groovie’s Yang. Buzz, known in some circles as Marston Daley, was the one artist who could blend that perfect combination of disco balls and satan. Hailing originally from Boston, Buzz joined the Wax Trax! family as an early member of Ministry during the Twitch tour.
Steve goes way back to the Denver days and was officially one of the first Wax Trax! employees at the age of 19. Steve experienced the early explosive inner workings of Jim & Dannie that were often fueled by quaaludes, gay bars and lots and lots of speed.
Steve later moved on to Tommy Boy Records and is currently Principal of Audika Records and the Arthur Russell Estate.
Early Chicago employee of both the store and the label. Larry had an intimate role in the incredible growth from 1983-1990. Larry credits Jim & Dannie for helping raise him in ways his own family couldn’t. Larry later went on to work for Mute and is currently a producer at Playboy Television.
Andy worked at the label from 1987-1992, starting as an intern after writing a school paper on the company. He eventually oversaw radio promotion and opened the ill-fated Los Angeles office. He later worked for Nettwerk and Rhino Records and is currently a co-founder of tech startup Wildkat and trying to launch a potato chip company.
Director of The Wax Trax! Documentary-Industrial Accident and daughter of co-founder Jim Nash. Julia originally managed the Wax Trax! Lincoln and Damen Ave. store and is current principal of Wax Trax! Records.

ARTIST MEET & GREET-ADDITIONAL PACKAGE We have an intimate artist party planned with limited availability. This is carved out between the two above events in which fans will have the opportunity to hang out, grab a photo, get stuff signed…or just a chance to say “thanks” for the music. So if you’ve ever felt the burning desire to buy Mr. Connelly a beer, take a selfie with Groovie Mann and get your LARD records signed all in one fell swoop…Then this may be what you’ve been looking for.
Let’s answer some basics before I get flooded with private questions.
Q: Will each panel and Q&A be different?
A: YES. We are making each panel special and unique. Panelists will include artists and staff to help explain what went down with the label & the store and why.
Q: Do I need to purchase a ticket for the panel discussion in order to see the private test screening?
A: YES, The screening is private and meant for cast/crew as a final sweep of feedback and comments in order to make definitive changes before this goes to festivals. It is private and therefore not a commercial event. We can, however give you a FREE ticket before anyone else will publicly see this film.
Q: Can I go to both panels (and both test screenings?) and get 2 posters?
A: YES. However, that will require purchasing 2 separate tickets.
Q: What exactly is a “Test Screening”? Sounds weird- Is this even a full film?
A: Just like a Test Pressing, a Test Print, or Test Dept. (Okay, maybe not Test Dept.), a test screening is exactly that. It is a complete version of the film that is viewed as a test to get comments and feedback in order to make any final adjustments that might help make the official release stronger. Similar to, let’s say how the banned test pressing version of “Physical” was a rare glimpse into the manufacturing process, only to be changed later, This is meant to check the quality and performance on a live audience.
Q: Can I just cut through all the crap and get ONE pass that gets me into everything you guys are doing?
A: YES. A VIP pass for everything during the two days will be available. We will have more info on that soon.
Q: Can I go to either panel and still attend the Artist Party?
A: YES. You will have two options when it’s time to purchase the “Meet and Greet.
Q: If I can’t make this weekend, will I be able to see this film again?
A: MAYBE. We will not have these panels and parties again so you will miss out on it happening here in Chicago. The film can be seen during the festival circuit most likely starting later in 2017, but there is never a guarantee that this or any film will be picked up by a distributor. So as much as I would love to point you to a DVD or streaming…We’re currently a long way from that and have to focus on the road in front of us.
Q: When and where can I buy tickets for this amazing fabulous, celebration of Wax Trax! awesomeness?
A: Friday 3/10/17. Tickets will be available on through waxtraxchicago.com, waxtraxfilms.com and the victheatre.com.

Howdy Hey Wax Trax! Film fans! I was curious about what you all are doing in a few weeks?
hmmm, I think March 31 & April 1, 2017 might be a pretty good time to be here in Chicago…Just sayin’
Hello Wax Trax Friends!
I owe you all an apology for the sparse communication regarding the Wax Trax! Documentary.
So, before I start packing up all the Wax Trax! mail order shipments for customers today, I wanted to send this little update.
So here is the latest:
- The film is getting close and has been picture locked for a month now.
- Handed audio off to be mixed on Jan 9. It typically takes approximately 6 weeks for a film like this to be properly mixed. We are meeting with the amazing folks at Another Country Studio next week to review the film mix so far.
- The name has changed to “Industrial Accident: The story of Wax Trax Records.”
- The trailer is complete and in queue for audio mix, color correction and one song left to license. (Kickstarter backers will see it first)
- We needed to license 44 songs for this film and trailer. This was not a small undertaking and one of the most time and energy consuming part of the post production. We have almost all the licensing agreements locked. We are waiting on a few rights holders. Everything will hinge on licensing. no licensing = no movie. It is conceivable that one publisher or master rights holder can delay the entire film until we are able to replace and re-edit the film.
- We are updating the website at waxtraxfilms.com with upcoming screening info and hope to have that launch within two weeks.
- We have been entering festivals and currently are waiting to hear back from 30+ Festivals from around the world.
- We are in the process of locking in details for a private Chicago test screening and plan on announcing dates within the next two weeks.
- We are super proud of this film and the people who have worked so incredibly hard at making it possible.
- Remaining rewards (poster, soundtrack, party) will be explained in detail in upcoming updates.
Without footage/photo approval, without music licensing and without audio mixing and color correction in place you cannot simply post things without having legal issues, disappointment or outrage. To do this right, and as the old adage goes “Good, Fast, Cheap…you can only have two”.
Whether it’s been time zone issues while trying to license content from Australia, Brussels, Berlin, etc., or perpetual meetings to review and approve editing, motion graphics, sound mixing and color correction…For the past few years, I wake up every morning working on this film until I fall asleep thinking about this film. Fortunately, we can finally see the light, and miraculously I haven’t lost my day job!!!
This is the most comprehensive look at Wax Trax! and the world my dad and Dannie created. Although I have no regrets for the amount of time this is taking in order to do it right, I do regret not checking in with you all more. Some reasons are due to trying to publicly explain abstract issues (“Hey everybody, We are really having a hard time tracking down Rheingold” and we’re stuck right now”)… Some are due to publishing challenges that are just plain boring (“Hey everybody, still trying to clear “Stainless Steel Providers” 30% by Jourgensen is done, the 30% from Barker looks good, but that suave dandy, Connelly’s 20% and Rieflin’s 10% are real tricky…and don’t get me stated with chasing down the 10% by Luuuuc Vaaaan Accckkkker”). zzzzzzzz.
More to come very soon. Lot’s of moving parts right now and as soon as I have concrete info, I will pass it along here first!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support, patience, kindness, and the nonstop love you all express for this film, the label, store and my dad and Dannie.
Keep the peace,
Hellllooooo Wax Trax People!
Oh my gosh it has been a while.
Did you think we forgot about you? Well, we didn’t… and excuse me if I vomit a ton of fancy fun at you here, but I haven’t talked to you all for so long and we need to catch up.
“WHAT’S UP WITH THE LONG WAIT FOR THE FILM?? DO YOU GUYS EVEN READ THE FAN EMAILS OR POSTINGS??”
Okay, let’s get down to brass tacks and first talk about what you all want to talk about…The Wax Trax Documentary!
Not sure if any of you have noticed, but we have been somewhat vague and let’s just say a little non-responsive regarding hard details and specific progress of the Wax Trax! documentary.
Including responding to direct questions and postings regarding progress as well as release dates for the soundtrack.
After over a year, I am finally free to tell you all that the delay has been due to an ongoing legal dispute with one of our past vendors and that things were tentatively and amicably resolved last week in Federal Court. Since events were unfolding month by month for the past year, we had been advised by our attorneys to stay quiet due to possibly misrepresenting a situation that has been fluid. It has been difficult not to communicate with you all properly and I’m really sorry that I couldn’t have said more over the past year.
An official press release will be coming shortly once the language has been approved by both sides. It will hopefully explain the saga with some clarity and finality. I’m sure both parties are looking forward to moving ahead and we promise to keep you all posted as we get this film out and in front of you all asap.
So…To the fans who have been rightfully asking “Is everything okay?”… “Will we ever see this movie?”…”Will I ever receive the remaining Kickstarter rewards still out there?” the answer we can tell you is…YES! YES! and YES!!
Let’s talk specifically about where the film is now. We have been working our fingers to the bone day and night in the editing room to meet our deadline. We had our sights set on on SXSW, Tribeca and Berlin festival deadlines in Oct.-Nov., but we realized we had a pretty bad-ass film almost done on our hands now and decided to step it up a notch and submit to Sundance this upcoming Monday. So…Fingers crossed, if any of the fest judges happen to be Laibach or Revolting Cocks fans we just may see our WT homies out in Utah in 2017.
“OKAY FINE. YOU GET A PASS FOR NOW BUT WHERE THE HELL IS THE SOUNDTRACK I PRE-ORDERED? IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WOULD TAKE THIS LONG I WOULD HAVE SAID GO SCREW”
I know a lot of you have been waiting super patiently for one of the most popular WAX TRAX!/Kickstarter rewards we have offered, the movie soundtrack.
As we mentioned previously, we are trying to release this in tandem with the movie so we still have some time needed to cross pollinate with the film. Lots of moving pieces with both the licensed music in the documentary and on the soundtrack. Without ruining the surprise of the track listing, we have been focused on a nice mix including favorites, live, out of print, and unreleased material. Hopefully you will agree with us here at WTHQ that the wait will not be in vain! We will not let you down. Please trust us, even if it takes a little longer than expected.
“WAX TRAX! GAVE ME ASSOCIATE PRODUCER CREDIT, AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS CRUMMY UPDATE”
To the VERY, VERY special few that helped us with our Associate Producing credit Kickstarter reward. We’re getting really close! As stated above, the edit is coming along nicely and your name on the big screen is going to look AWESOME! You all are going to be the envy of the dance floor, record store, or any other place you want to strut your 1980s underground street-cred! Just hang in there, you won’t be disappointed!
Okay, let’s move onto some equally bad-ass happenings in the WAX TRAX! World.
